Differences in Syllables
'Syllables' are the parts of a word when you say it. The word syll-a-ble, for example, has got three parts.

StatueLiberty Americans usually pronounce all the syllables in long words:

dictionary
has 4 syllables in American English.




London
Standard British English speakers often miss out a syllable to make long words shorter:

diction
ary has 3 syllables in British English. The syllable 'a' is silent.
